Our Mission
Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God’s love and can live and grow into all that God intends.

A Hand Up, Not A Hand Out
Habitat For Humanity is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry striving to make decent and affordable housing available to every family worldwide. Putnam County Habitat For Humanity works to achieve this objective in our own county. Even in a community as prosperous as ours, there are people who need help. Many of our neighbors, who are struggling to make ends meet, need just a helping hand. Many refer to the Habitat program as a hand up, not a hand out.

Building a Community
We believe home ownership is the single most important way to build a community. It builds personal pride, promotes family and financial responsibilities, and reduces some of the financial frustrations that can make lower-income families feel like they can never get ahead. Our country is built on the dream of owning your own home, being responsible for its upkeep, and caring for your family and community. With neighbors helping neighbors, it’s more than houses, this work is about building a community.

How It Works
Churches, corporations, local businesses, civic organizations, and individuals provide leadership, labor, and financial support to help us make a difference in our community. Donations of time, materials, and finances are required to build the homes. With this support, we are able to build a modest home for much less than the average market price. Houses are sold to the partner families at no profit added and financed with zero interest mortgages. Mortgage payments are then used by PCHFH to continue the mission to eliminate poverty housing in Putnam County. Therefore, Contributions to Habitat for Humanity help to build not just one home but continue to help other families.

Before being accepted into the program, applicants must agree to partner with our organization. Detailed information on becoming a homeowner is available here.

Our Goal
The ultimate goal of Habitat for Humanity is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the face of the earth by constructing and building adequate and basic housing. Furthermore, all our words and actions are for the ultimate purpose of putting shelter on the hearts and minds of people in such a powerful way that poverty housing and homelessness become socially, politically and religiously unacceptable in our nations and world.
