Habitat for
Humanity model is working…
· Habitat homeowners are stable and their children do not change schools as frequently as do many low-income renters.
· Families are accepted based on their need, income, and their willingness to partner. Applicants go through a rigorous application process.
· We serve families earning between 30-60% of the area median income by Habitat providing and carrying a 0% interest mortgage, we are able to ensure the homes are affordable. Families’ mortgage payments are then used to build even more homes.
· We provide a "hand up" to our homebuyers as they work more than 400 hours of labor on the construction of their home and attend mandatory homebuyer/homeowner education classes before purchasing their home from Habitat.
· Habitat involves the community by partnering with corporations, governments, churches, individuals, foundations, faith and civic groups to provide the sponsor funding to cover the cost of construction materials to build each home.
Homeownership is
essential…
· In Tennessee, 42% of households who rent spend over 30% of their income on housing.
· Homeownership provides stability, 91% of Habitat for Humanity
houses built in Tennessee in the last ten years are still occupied by the original homeowner.
· Homeowners have brighter futures due to a stable, healthy
environment that provides space to live, to grow and to dream.
· We make it our mission and goal to not just get the family into an
affordable home, but to ensure their success as homeowners.
